John Ball Zoo’s ZOO GOES BOO happens over two weekends!

(Grand Rapids, MI)   The annual ZOO GOES BOO event is practically a family tradition here in West Michigan.  “It’s been happening for over 25 years.”  said Brenda Stringer, Director of Institutional Advancement.  “Most families attend with grandparents, children and grandchildren as they have year after year.”

For six days, 10/21, 22, 23 and 10/28, 29, 30 – 10am to 3pm,  John Ball Zoo transforms into a magical, mystical, world full of exotic creatures and amazing things.    “It’s kooky-not-spooky fun and there’s just no better place to get the kids dancing, laughing, and enjoying the outdoors.” said Peter D’Arienzo, Chief Executive Officer.

The Zoo offers more than a dozen treat stations and families are encouraged to dress up.  There’s also eye-popping decorations like giant inflatable creatures, a flock of skeleton flamingos, and other photo-worthy scenes.  Joining the fun are some great entertainers like hula-hoopers, human statues,  a stilt walker, the magic of Maciek, a join-in drum circle by Bill Vitts, Patchwork Pear the juggler, dancers and many more.  Every day is different at BOO, but the Zoo guarantees there will always be a lot to see and do.   Even the animals will get some treats.

ZOO GOES BOO is made possible by MEIJER STORES and BLUE CARE NETWORK.  Meijer will be distributing $1.00 off BOO admission coupons, and Blue Care Network is providing the trick-or-treat bags.

JOHN BALL ZOO members are invited to attend a members-only evening event MONSTER MASH on the eve of ZOO GOES BOO – Thur, 10/17 – 5-7:30pm.  Information about the ticketed event is available at
