If you are visiting Grand Rapids this weekend, you picked a GREAT time to visit. A gorgeous forecast and a lot going on around the city equals a good time for all. Here are a few things you won’t want to miss.
- Local First Street Party: One of my personal favorite things about Grand Rapids is that we love to support all things local. Local food, local beers, and local bands are the backbone of the annual Local First Street Party. Starting at 4 pm on Saturday, Grand Rapidians take to the street in front of Bistro Bella Vita downtown and celebrate all the local things that make this city great. Admission is free so that you can save your money for all that beer and food. This is a do not miss event so check out the Local First website for all the details.
- The Market: Since you are already going to be heading downtown to celebrate all things local, why not start your day a little earlier by checking out local artists at The Market. Mostly an event to promote Grand Rapids amazing artists and artisans, there will also be great local bands and DJs to provide you some music to shop by. This event will take place on Saturday from 12 to 9 p.m. on South Division Between Fulton and Cherry. Over 60 vendors are participating so make sure to check it out! This event is put on by Avenue for the Arts and you can find more information on their website.
- Rockford Start of Summer Celebration: Summer has officially begun around Grand Rapids. Well by that I mean, all three kids are now in my house all the time. So we will be kicking things off at the “Start of Summer Celebration” in downtown Rockford. There is lots of food, a carnival, crafts, vendors, a Saturday morning parade and Saturday evening fireworks. Rockford is an adorable suburb north of Grand Rapids which a lot of great restaurants and shopping downtown to enjoy while you check out the festival. Get full details at the Rockford website.
- Grand Rapids Civic Theatre: Want to stay inside and enjoy some of Grand Rapids best theatre? This weekend head down to the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre to catch a performance of the hilarious musical “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” There are both matinee and evening performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so you can easily fit in a show along with all the other great events happening downtown. Check out the Civic Theatre website for more info.
