Ever wonder where the hundreds of thousands of objects in the care of the Public Museum of Grand Rapids but not on display are stored? Now there's a chance to find out. Schedule a Behind-the-Scenes Tour in the new state of the art Community Archives and Research Center (CARC) Building at the site of the old Public Museum and East Building on the corner of Washington & Jefferson, SE.
Staff will be touring your group throughout the building and answering questions. The archives are on several floors, so come prepared for stairs! No large bags, backpacks, etc. will be allowed in the archives, but general photography for personal use is permitted.
This is an excellent opportunity for the public to get a first hand look at the splendid new building and its high-tech archival facility.
And the permanent collection ... shelf after shelf, drawer after drawer, box after box of the community's treasures from the past 157 years and more. It's an amazing sight, one would not want to miss.
CARC is at 223 Washington, SE, a site many will remember as the entrance to the old Planetarium.
