Grand Rapids is proud of its cultural diversity and the way our racial/ethnic communities help us play host to culture-specific conferences. Our most active and influential groups include:
Grand Rapids elected its first African-American mayor way back in 1971. Today, one in five city residents is African American and more than 1,200 African Americans own businesses here. download pdf
Approximately 22,000 Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders live in the Grand Rapids metro region, led by people of Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese and Indian descent.
More than 100,000 people of Latino and Hispanic descent called West Michigan home in 2009. More than 1,400 Hispanic-owned businesses generate over $163 million in sales.
Each of these communities supports specialized media, restaurants, services and places of worship that will make your attendees feel right at home. Grand Rapids also hosts a variety of special events celebrating the unique contributions of these groups. download pdf
