Grand Rapids Symphony presents children’s classic Peter and Wolf for Lollipop Series

Grand Rapids Ballet joins the orchestra to the bring to life the tale for young children

 

WHAT:

Media are invited to attend the Grand Rapids Symphony’s production of Peter and the Wolf, arguably the best-known and best-loved orchestral work ever composed especially for young children.

 

Grand Rapids Ballet joins the orchestra under Associate Conductor John Varineau for two performances in the Grand Rapids Symphony’s Lollipop Series for children ages 4 to 8 with their families. Edye Evans Hyde narrates the program that the Grand Rapids Symphony performed six times earlier this week for area elementary school children.

 

The Russian folk tale, set to music by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936, introduces children to the different sounds of the orchestra as well as how to listen to how the music tells the story alongside the narration.

 

The PNC Lollipop Series concerts are 45 minutes long without intermission.

About the Grand Rapids Symphony
Organized in 1930, the Grand Rapids Symphony is nationally recognized for the quality of its concerts and educational programs. Led by Music Director Marcelo Lehninger, Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt and Associate Conductor John Varineau, nine concert series are presented, featuring a wide range of music and performance styles.
