Inspiring Local Students to Savor & Soar

We are thrilled to announce the return of Savor & Soar: A Hospitality and Tourism Summit, scheduled for October 29, 2024, at the historic Amway Grand Plaza in the heart of Grand Rapids (187 Monroe Ave NW). This is the second year we’re hosting this event, which is a celebration of the vibrant hospitality and tourism sector that forms a cornerstone of our local economy.

This year's summit promises an enriching work-based learning opportunity for students of our local Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, allowing them to translate classroom theories into real-world practices within a dynamic community setting. The hospitality and tourism industry is a vital part of our community's fabric, representing nearly 10 percent of all employment in the state, and we are eager to showcase the vitality and career potential of the field.

What Can You Expect? 

The day will kick off with an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the Van Andel Arena, one of downtown Grand Rapids' most significant landmarks. Participants will also get a firsthand glimpse into the operations of the Amway Grand Plaza, a 4+ diamond hotel, including a tour of its commercial kitchen and insights into the meticulous art of event planning.

Students will have the unique opportunity to participate in a panel discussion with industry pioneers, which will provide them with invaluable insights and knowledge about the sector. Complimentary round-trip transportation will be provided from their schools directly to the Amway, ensuring a seamless and educational experience.

Evening Gala: A Culinary Showcase 

As the sun sets, the summit will transition into a grand dinner. This evening isn’t just about enjoying a delicious meal – it’s also an immersive experience in which students actively engage with the heartbeat of a commercial kitchen. They will witness the journey of food from prep to plate, participate in discussions with industry leaders, and savor the culinary creations they observed being made.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for students and adult chaperones to network with industry professionals, explore potential career paths, and broaden their horizons through an engaging resource table stroll.
