Did you know that you can attend world-class Broadway performances right here in Grand Rapids? Why travel to big cities such as New York City or Los Angeles to see top Broadway performers when Broadway Grand Rapids has fabulous talents of its own?

Those in-the-know are saving plenty of their pennies by hitting Broadway right here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, thanks to local organization Broadway Grand Rapids.

Meghan Distel, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Broadway Grand Rapids, wants to dispel a common rumor: these aren’t just second-run, second-rate copies of the Broadway hits.

In fact, four of the touring shows that have a stop in Grand Rapids this 2018-2019 season are nationally-recognized Broadway hits. These shows feature the same sets and world-class actors as they would in New York City or Chicago.

Keeping Local Talent

Distel emphasizes that Broadway Grand Rapids hires local musicians, local stagehands, and many other local folks in the theatre community, to help pull off such big productions throughout the year.

“We’re looking to bring people really memorable stories, music, and performances to West Michigan,” says Distel. “Our mission really is to bring the best of Broadway to Grand Rapids. We are bringing stories that can inspire and touch your soul, but there’s a bigger piece in all of that, and that is to connect us all. And theatre can do that.”

Broadway Grand Rapids is part of a thriving, connected theatre community here in Grand Rapids, from small houses like Dog Story Theater and Jewish Theatre Grand Rapids to more well-known organizations like Circle Theatre and Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, and everything in-between.

With a variety of downtown hotels and restaurants, like Reserve and Roam by San Chez Bistro, next door to the Broadway Grand Rapids’ performance stage at DeVos Performance Hall, it’s easy to make a special night out or weekend downtown.
