Grand Rapids' holiday season officially began December 2 with the lighting of the Christmas Tree and the opening of the ice skating rink at Rosa Parks Circle. Community members, community carolers, and, of course, community radio all came together to make the evening merry and bright. In addition to playing music, WYCE 88.1FM was on hand to emcee the event with Mayor Bliss and Santa!

At 7:00 pm, the sound system at Rosa Parks Circle switched over to the live broadcast of WYCE 88.1FM, where it will remain throughout the skating season and year round, starting in 2017. This was a great moment after a long collaboration with Grand Rapids Community Media Center, the City of Grand Rapids' Office of Special Events, the City of Grand Rapids Parks Department, and Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.

WYCE 88.1FM is listener sponsored and volunteer powered as a part of the Grand Rapids Community Media Center. The station reflects the diversity of the Grand Rapids community by playing a "world of music," including blues, folk, rock, jazz, R&B, hip hop, world beat, bluegrass, reggae and so much more. As you walk through Downtown or go skating this holiday season, take a moment to listen to WYCE's local, regional and world music as it creates the soundtrack to Grand Rapids.

Look for more community music partnerships involved with Rosa Parks Circle and downtown Grand Rapids in the future. As a matter of fact, you can attend the live WYCE 88.1FM radio show, GR LIVE, each week at noon on Thursdays. The show is free and takes place at HOME at The BOB on 20 Monroe Ave. NW, right in the heart of Downtown. Join us any Thursday at noon for lunch or a beer during GR LIVE radio on WYCE 88.1FM featuring live music and interviews.
