Affordable Family Fun

At $8 per person for lawn seating, it’s hard find more bang for your buck in terms of family fun. If you decide to splurge for reserved seats ($12.50 each), you’ll find them a bit more plush this year—some of the original bench-style seats from 1994 have been replaced with more comfortable individual seats.

Winning Giveaways

Like the sound of winning? So do the West Michigan Whitecaps!  They’ve hit it out of the ballpark and won six championships since 1994.

“We’re giving away replica championship rings for each of those championship titles throughout the season,” says Mickey Graham, Director of Marketing for the West Michigan Whitecaps. On four of those six nights, the team will be sporting original logo replica uniforms. (The uniforms have been donned for May 12 and June 17 but fans can look forward to seeing them on July 28, and September 1. Replica rings will also be given away on July 14 and August 5.)

Fans can get in on all kinds of extra fun, including the possibility of winning a blue 1994 Corvette they’ll be giving away! Visit the West Michigan Whitecaps’ website to register for the giveaway!

One night you won’t want to miss is September 1. “We’re giving away a ton of great prizes,” said Graham. “Things like TVs and PlayStations. We’re just randomly picking people to win prizes throughout the night!”

They’re also bringing back their original signature sandwich: The Swimming Pig. “It’s a pork chop sandwich swimming in barbecue sauce, with peppers and onions,” explains Graham. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, they’ll be offering 25 Swimming Pigs to the first 25 fans to order them. Get there early and snag one at the First Base BBQ area!

The Food

If you miss your chance to try a Swimming Pig, no worries. The West Michigan Whitecaps have plenty of new food and drink items on their menu this year, including the Mt. Wing-Suvius, the Wing Ring Volcano, the winner of this year’s fan favorite contest.

Picture onion rings piled high with mac and cheese, buffalo chicken, beer cheese, and green onions. “It’s an excellent choice. It’s delicious!” says Graham.

In addition to the Wing Ring Volcano, Graham really enjoys the Westsider Sandwich. “It’s cheddar-infused kielbasa sausage wrapped in bacon and deep fried,” he says. It’s served in a bun.

The new Death Nectar wings, however, have a bit too much heat for him. “They’re crazy!” he warns. You can also get the wings with Wimpy or Near Death flavors. All three items are available at the Sweet Meats Smokehouse concession area.

In addition to food, the ballpark offers plenty of beer options, including more than 10 Michigan craft beers and the new Shipwrecked drink. Made with Captain Morgan White, Captain Morgan Spiced, the 64oz. Blue Curacao, and more.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Be sure to check out the new organist who plays at most home games. “We put the organ right on the concourse so fans can go up and watch her play, talk to her, and interact,” says Graham. “It’s pretty cool walking around the ballpark and hearing Bohemian Rhapsody on the organ.”

From the time the gates open until after the game, there’s entertainment for families.

FANomenal Fridays

“From the time the gates open until after the game, there’s entertainment for families,” explains Graham. There are giveaways, kid food specials, and a wide variety of events—the full schedule is available on the West Michigan Whitecaps website.

The next FANomenal Friday on August 17 is Harry Potter Night. Be a part of the magic as Fifth Third Ballpark transforms into Hogwarts for the night, complete with pre-game Quidditch, a wand-making station, and a golden snitch hunt.

“Baseball fans will love Wednesday nights because we bring in former Tigers to sign autographs,” says Graham. Dave Rozema will be there on July 11. Check the West Michigan Whitecaps website for additional players/dates.

Altogas Thrifty Thursdays

Altogas Thrifty Thursdays are especially awesome because Pepsi products, hot dogs and domestic beers are just $2.00! Thursdays are also College Night – you get a reserved seat for just $5 (usually $12.50) with a college or military ID.
