“Mental Health & Aging for Smarty’s: Reducing the Stigma” is the topic for the August “Healthy U” lecture on Monday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes, a faith-based, not-for-profit, continuing care retirement community located at 2510 Lake Michigan Drive N.W., Grand Rapids.
Clinical therapist LuAnn Arnson, LMSW, will discuss the prevalence of mental health issues among older adults and how untreated illnesses can impact a family’s social, physical and spiritual well-being. She will also share how to identify common mental health concerns and explain some of the more common and effective treatments available, including those that focus on a team approach.
Arnson is a licensed clinical social worker at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Grand Rapids. Her areas of practice include anxiety, dementia, depression and bereavement.
