Ellen Bass is a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her most recent book, Like a Beggar (Copper Canyon Press, 2014), was a finalist for The Paterson Poetry Prize, The Publishers Triangle Award, The Milt Kessler Poetry Award, The Lambda Literary Award, and the Northern California Book Award. Previous books include The Human Line and Mules of Love, which won The Lambda Literary Award. She co-edited (with Florence Howe) the first major anthology of women’s poetry, No More Masks! (Doubleday, 1973).

“Like a Beggar is Ellen Bass’s most recent collection. It is, hands down, the most engaging, compelling and emotionally moving collection of poems I’ve read this past year.” -- Michael Gillian Maxwell

Kevin Young is the director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and is poetry editor at The New Yorker. Also an editor, essayist, and curator, highlights of Young's 10 books of poetry include: Blue Laws: Selected & Uncollected Poems 1995-2015, long-listed for the National Book Award; Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels, winner of an American Book Award; Jelly Roll: A Blues (Knopf, 2003), a finalist for the National Book Award and Los Angeles Times Book Prize and winner of the Paterson Poetry Prize. His newest book of poetry is Brown (Knopf, April 2018).

“Young’s book (Brown) releases a universal shout — political in the best, most visceral way, critical, angry, squinting hard at this culture — while remaining at the same time deeply and lovingly personal.” -- Luis Alberto Urrea in The New York Times
