ANTON, HIMSELF: First and Last

ANTON, HIMSELF: First and Last
Written by Karen Sunde
This single actor tour de force reveals the deeply personal and artistic sides of Russia's most famous playwright, Anton Chekhov. The play begins with the dramatist immediately following the failure of his early masterpiece “The Seagull” (1895) and concludes with the success of “The Cherry Orchard” (1903). Sunde's semi-documentary drama skillfully captures the soul and the spirit of this giant of the modern stage struggling with his literary identity, with the opinions of an often-hostile public, and with the challenges of pursuing
romance and serving as head of a family. Performed by Grand Valley State University faculty actor-director Roger Ellis.
