Eric Mendelsohn, well-known German architect, designed Temple Emanuel in Grand Rapids. *Known for his expressionist architecture in the 1920s, as well as for developing a dynamic functionalism in his projects for department stores and cinemas, Mendelsohn was a pioneer of the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne architecture, notably with his 1921 Mossehaus design. On Friday, June 28, 2:00 pm, there will be a talk and booksigning with photographer and author, Michael Craig Palmer, whose recently-released book, Eric Mendelsohn’s Synagogues in America, includes the story and photos of Temple Emanuel.
