Beer 101: Part 2 "How Beer is Made"

Beer 101 Tuesday Tastings is a three part series, led by Certified Cicerone® Allison, that will be exploring a difference aspect of beer each week.

Part 1 "Tasting Beer & Influential Styles" will dive into a bit of the science of how to taste & appropriately evaluate a beer. Then we will move on to discuss & taste a selection of influential styles.

Part 2 "How Beer is Made" will walk you through the brewing process. Along the way we will highlight each of the four main ingredients used to brew beer & their contributions. This class will include malt tastings, hop rubbings & tasting beers brewed with different yeasts.

Part 3 "How to Pair Beer & Food" During this class we will cover the concepts/theories of how to create a successful beer & food pairing. Then we get to the fun part, PAIRINGS! We will try a couple "classic" pairings along with having the opportunity to experiment with creating your own favorite pairings.

About Allison
Allison Hoekstra is Certified Cicerone®. She passed the Certified Cicerone exam, receiving a 100% on the tasting portion. Not only is Allison an official “beer nerd” but she also has a passion for beer education and exploring it with others. When not teaching “Tuesday Tastings” you can find her at Hopcat, Brewery Vivant or teaching at Grand Rapids Community College.
