Free educational event aimed at middle school students celebrating the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Activities listed below:

Crocheting the Hyperbolic Plane (Mathematics)
Did you know you can use yarn to visualize the possible fabric of the universe? We’ll work with a geometric model where parallel lines don’t stay parallel and other oddities.

Deep Impact: Craters on Earth (Astronomy)
Explore how impact craters form by creating your own! We’ll simulate the Earth’s surface with common household materials and find out what factors set the size and shape of craters.

Exploring the Human Skeleton (Biology)
At this station, you will learn how to identify different bones in the human body and create your own macaroni skeleton to take home and share your newfound discoveries.

Mystery Mineral (Geology)
With over 3000 minerals in the Earth, which is your mystery mineral? Learn how geologists and geology students identify minerals and learn why your mystery mineral is so important!

Strawberry DNA (Biology and Chemistry)
What makes a strawberry a strawberry? With guidance, you will be able to extract the DNA from a real strawberry and see for yourself what this genetic code looks like!
