With Dr. Rebecca DeYoung
Contemporary culture seems to trivialize the "seven deadly sins," or vices, as if they have no serious moral or spiritual implications. Dr. DeYoung clears this misconception by exploring the traditional meanings of gluttony, sloth, lust, and others and their connection to the Christian tradition of spiritual formation. She will give a practical understanding of how the vices shape our culture today and how to eliminate the deeply rooted patterns of sin that are at work in our lives. This program will be live-streamed at catholicinformationcenter.org
Rebecca DeYoung, PhD (University of Notre Dame) has taught philosophy at Calvin College for the past 18 years. She specializes in ethics and the history of philosophy, and her research focuses on the seven capital vices and moral formation. Her books include Glittering Vices: A New Look at the Seven Deadly Sins and Their Remedies (Brazos 2009), and Vainglory: The Forgotten Vice (Eerdmans 2014). She speaks widely, including recent visits to Capitol Hill, a Cistercian abbey, colleges and universities
