Gone Before Spring: A Retro Look at Alger Heights

Local author Sheila Solomon Shotwell's new novel, Gone Before Spring, is a coming-of-age story that takes place in Alger Heights in the 1960s. Together with local historian Melissa Fox, the pair will uncover the history of the southeast neighborhood, highlighting the business district and Garfield Park. They will look at daily life there during the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, and a rising counter culture. Don't miss a special appearance by Mrs. Roshewski, the owner of Mitchell's Young at Heart clothing store. A book signing will follow the presentation.
