Following in the tradition of singer‐pianists Shirley Horn, Diana Krall, and Blossom Dearie, Robin Connell tickles the ivories with original arrangements of time honored classics from The Great American Songbook (Gershwin, Porter), jazz standards (Ellington, Brubeck), and her own unique compositions. With harmonic sophistication at the piano, and a tinge of haunting introspection, she sings and “tells the story” with the depth that comes from true‐life experience. Her jazz trio features Tim Froncek on drums and Chris Kjorness on bass. All three are full time musicians that perform regularly in a variety of formats in addition to the trio. Connell, host of Jazz in the Sanctuary at Fountain Street Church, is the 2017 Jazz Musician of the Year (West Mich Jazz Society) as well as winner of the 2016 ArtPrize Public Choice award for her original composition, Prisms.
