The original line up of the Hill People has just reunited after 35 years and are now playing publicly. In the early 1980’s, we were quite a popular band named for the Heritage Hill area of GR where most of us lived. We played all over Michigan, with the GR Symphony, the opening of the Amway Grand, and at many local and regional clubs, festivals and parties.
The band members are all accomplished and Duncan, Tom and Bob each handle lead vocals. Duncan, our banjo player, is a highly accomplished musician who has shared the stage with many other stellar musicians. Tom, our mandolin/guitar player was a member of The Blue Water Ramblers, and The Missing Lynx, two popular combos. John, our bass player, was the drummer for Cabbage Crik, and Iowa Rose and Riff Raff, two legendary West Michigan Bands. Bob, who left the Hill People in 1983 to pursue a career in Public Health and travel around the world, is back on the fiddle.
We play a combination of western swing, gypsy jazz, ole time, bluegrass, Irish, Scottish and other ethnic genres.
