Speak Up GR: Individual Rights and Community Policing

According to a 2017 independent study on traffic stops released by the City of Grand Rapids, African Americans are twice as likely to be pulled over by the police than their white counterparts. In response, police and city leaders have vowed to work toward addressing racial bias and instituting systemic change within the Police Department. In this community discussion, panelists will review the rights of individuals when interacting with law enforcement, how racial bias affects the whole community, and the City’s latest efforts to improve community policing and safety.
