Speedrome Gone, But Not Forgotten

Doug Taylor will share the history of this very special place. Located on North Park Street between the Grand River and West River Drive, the site hosted the West Michigan Fairgrounds, the short lived Air Park, and the Speedrome. Opened in 1950, the Speedrome hosted Nascar races and, in the 1960s, super fast modifieds and semi late model stock cars. Taylor will bring to life the days of the thundering race cars that roared around the trac since 1903, with names like Barney Oldfield, Louis Chevrolet, and Ralph DePalma. Join Speedrome drivers Johnny Benson Sr., Wayne Landon, Gail Cobb, Bob Senneker, and Ralph Baker in a question and answer session after the presentation.
