The Life and Times of Roger B. Chaffee

Join former NASA historian Glen Swanson to learn about the life and times of Grand Rapids native Roger Bruce Chaffee. Chaffee would have flown aboard America’s first manned Apollo mission but his life was cut short by a tragic fire that broke out inside the spacecraft on January 27, 1967 during a routine launch-pad systems test. The lessons learned from the fatal accident paved the way for the eventual success of the Apollo Program culminating in six missions that allowed 12 men to walk on the surface of the moon. Co-sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society.
