This is NOT your Grandmother's piano recital! A wildly popular summer concert performed by 80 top young musicians from The Piano Cottage Studios, prepare to have your socks knocked off! Extremely family friendly, 2-hour production featuring contemporary pop, rock and some classic oldies as well will leave you wondering how you ever survived a summer without Piano Cottage Rocks in your life!
The Piano Cottage Rocks! concert began as a small, student-led rock concert at Wealthy Theatre in 2012. Since then, the event has become larger each year as the concert’s reputation has grown. The cast has performed to sold out houses at the Frederik Meijer Gardens, Wealthy Theater and DeVos Hall for their 5th Anniversary Show. This year's concert will feature over 80 students performing every role in the concert , covering artists ranging from Queen to 21 Pilots, Greatest Showman Musical to the Eagles, Pat Benetar, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae to Led Zeppelin and more in a two-hour performance. Students are selected through a competitive audition process and each year the level of talent gets higher as a result of their motivation to participate in this event.
“Whatever your expectation – whatever you feel or think a kid’s rock concert should be or sound like – this will completely blow that out of the water,” said Ron Lutz, parent of several grown musicians now but stumbled upon TPCR4 at The Meijer Gardens and couldn't believe his eyes or ears. “It’s incredible what these kids are capable of. They are clearly receiving world class training. ”
Previous Piano Cottage Rocks! events have set attendance records at Meijer Gardens and garnered press coverage in Local Spins, The Rapidian, WZZM Take Five, and other local media outlets. “I cannot believe those are kids performing and entertaining me at this level,” said local musician Ron Lutz after enjoying TPCR4 at the Meijer Gardens. “We just can’t wait to see it again.” Lutz encourages parents from around Michigan to bring their young musicians from elementary age through high school students to gain inspiration and see what is really possible "when you learn to love practicing!"
