The Search for the Westmoreland: Michigan’s Treasure Shipwreck

Join author and shipwreck hunter Ross Richardson in exploring one of Lake Michigan’s most intriguing shipwrecks, the treasure ship Westmoreland. The Westmoreland, a 200-foot wooden passenger steamer, foundered in a winter gale in 1854. Of her crew and passengers, 17 perished and 17 survived. Soon rumors of gold coins in her safe and whiskey barrels in her hold started circulating around the Great Lakes. Over the next 150 years, the Westmoreland became one of the most sought after shipwrecks of the inland seas. Learn of the legend, the history, and the discovery of Lake Michigan’s treasure shipwreck.
