Join Ron Yob of the Grand River Bands of Ottawa Indians as he discusses and explains the symbolism displayed on the new "Manidoo Bawating" custom sculpture at the
World of Winter | Hybycozo's at Ah-Nab-Awen Park
.
“Manidoo Bawating” is an 11-foot-tall steel sculpture custom-designed to represent and honor important symbols and unique traditions of the Native American community that thrived along the Grand River and throughout the Great Lakes region.
Its name means "Spirit of the Rapids" in the indigenous Anishinaabemowin language.
Ron will also explain its connection with the Native community. Enjoy stories about some of the elements you’ll see on" Manidoo Bawating" including the turtle, maple leaves, sweetgrass, strawberries, the water, weavings, a medicine wheel, and the three fires that are represented on the sculpture.
The January 28 Tribal Stories event takes place on Wolf Moon, the January full moon that is sacred in many Native American Tribes.
The February 27 Tribal Stories event takes place on Snow Moon, the February full moon that is sacred in many Native American Tribes.
