ArtPrize® is an open, independently organized international art competition and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
For 19 days in the fall, about a half million attendees descend upon three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan where anyone can find a voice in the conversation about what is art and why it matters. Art from around the world pops up in every inch of downtown in nearly 200 venues—museums, galleries, bars, restaurants, theaters, hotels, public parks, lobbies, buildings, walls, bridges, laundromats, and auto body shops—and it’s all free and open to the public.
It’s unorthodox, highly disruptive, and undeniably intriguing to the art world and the public alike.
ArtPrize will take place on the even years: 2020, 2022, 2024, etc. The odd years will be filled by another large scale public art exhibition curated by the ArtPrize team called Project by ArtPrize.
The world’s largest art competition features 1,500+ diverse works of art all over downtown Grand Rapids – kids love the variety and excitement of it all!
The world’s richest, most radically open art competition takes place in Grand Rapids every autumn. Time magazine called it one of the world’s top five festivals!
