Stanley Ketchel, a professional middleweight boxer otherwise known as “Michigan Assassin”, was born in Grand Rapids in 1886. Ketchel won the world middleweight championship in 1907 and held it until his untimely death in 1910. Some boxing historians refer to Ketchel as the greatest fighter in middleweight division history.
