The Sunburst is an iconic symbol of The Amway Grand Plaza. This one-of-a-kind wood sculpture was carved in 1740. Known as the Sunburst, it graced the Moroscini family castle in Genoa, Italy, for 150 years. When the castle was burned, the Sunburst was saved from the ruins and later sold at public auction. In 1979, the Sunburst was purchased by Amway as a focal point for the hotel when they were renovating. Local craftsmen reconstructed it, painstakingly fitting the pieces together and covering the finished sculpture in gold. The Sunburst was installed in the Amway Grand in 1981. While no two pieces of the Sunburst are alike, they come together with perfect balance and beauty.
