Experience Grand Rapids is excited to partner with Magic 104.9 and Grand Rapids Public Schools to promote the #GRSummerProject.
The project kicked off on June 9. Thirty-nine students – ranging from 6th grade to college freshman – answered the call to identify a problem within our local community and develop a solution to address the issue. The students will partner with community organizations and will divide into groups that focus on community advocacy, business and music related topics. Each team will be assigned a mentor from the community who will provide guidance as they work toward a solution. Teams will each receive $1,049 of funding to implement their problem-solving strategy over the summer with the goal of making Grand Rapids a better place to live, learn and work.
At Experience Grand Rapids, we strongly value student perspectives on our city. These motivated and active young people are a driving force that can shape our city’s future – including the cultural, music, food, art and recreational offerings that make it an ideal place for residents and visitors alike. When our students are empowered to get engaged in issues that are important to them, Grand Rapids becomes a better, more welcoming place for all.
We hope that our support of the #GRSummerProject will strengthen the community that these students live in and represent – and that we promote every day at Experience Grand Rapids. We can’t wait to see how each team shapes and furthers the development of our city with their advocacy.
