Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts

New location at 17 Pearl St. NW in downtown Grand Rapids.

About the UICA

Michigan’s largest multidisciplinary contemporary arts center – known as UICA to locals – UICA presents innovative art, events, and educational programs that represent our world today. Their programs foster belonging by sharing perspectives that grow an equitable, thriving culture and community.

UICA exhibits contemporary artwork from regional, national and international artists throughout the year. They host a range of events including docent-led tours, performance art, artist receptions, and gallery talks, and is an auxiliary enterprise within Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.

The UICA recently relocated into the Woodbridge N. Ferris Building, a former federal building, which also houses classrooms and offices for the Kendall College of Art and Design, located at 17 Pearl St. NW in downtown Grand Rapids. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
