Guide Books, Maps and Metro Cards, Oh My!

Art Prize is a scavenger hunt through Grand Rapids. Get your walking shoes on, but grab a map to navigate your way around. A guide, map, wristband and Metro Card will help make the most of your ArtPrize experience. Use your Metro Card to ride the Rapid bus for FREE during ArtPrize. Buy your ArtPrize Guide Book, Map and Metro Pass at The Hub, any of the Exhibition Centers, participating Meijer locations, JW Marriott and The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Metro Passes are normally $5 each. When you buy the guidebook and map for $15, you can get up to four ArtPrize Metro Passes for only $2.50 each.

SmartPhone Apps Available

Do you have a smart phone? There is an iPhone app in the iTunes Store and new this year, the DROID app is available in the Market. Simply search for "ArtPrize" in either place. You can vote using these handy apps or simply use the mobile site at m.artprize.org.

ArtPrize 2011:

In 2011, ArtPrize had 162 venues throughout Grand Rapids that showcased the work of 1,582 artists from 36 countries and 42 states. ArtPrize Executive Director, Catherine Creamer, said artists traveled from as far away as Austria, Singapore, South Africa, and Argentina to compete for $450,000 in prizes.

New to ArtPrize 2012:

 2012 will bring a new Juried Grand Prize to ArtPrize for $100,000. The $100,000 award will be added to a revised list of public and juried prizes that will be distributed at the end of the 19-day event. The new award increases the total awards the event distributes to $550,000, making it the largest total prize purse for art in the world.In addition to the Juried Grand Prize, ArtPrize will also increase its other juried awards to $20,000 each. The organization selected five categories to recognize:

  • Two-Dimensional
  • Three-Dimensional
  • Time and Performance
  • Urban Space
  • Venue

The changes in Juried Prizes will result in a revision of the ArtPrize Public Vote Awards as well:

  • Top Prize 2011: $250,000 2012: $200,000
  • 2nd 2011: $100,000 2012: $75,000
  • 3rd 2011: $50,000 2012: $50,000
  • 4th-10th 2011: $7,000 2012: $5,000
