Summer in Grand Rapids means fun-filled activities and events for all ages. Here are a few of our favorites:
Head to West Michigan beaches for a day of swimming, sandcastle-building, dune climbing and more.
Cool off on the Splash Pad at Millennium Park - which also includes a swimming lake, sandy beach, picnic facilities and nearly 20 miles of biking/hiking trails. All just five minutes from downtown!
Detroit Lions Summer Football Fundamentals Camp is a four-day session designed to improve a child's beginning, intermediate or advanced skill level. Open to boys and girls ages 6-14. June 29 - July 2.
Detroit Lions Football Education Offensive Skills Academy is a four-day session covering the fundamentals of quarterback, running back and wide receiver play. Open to boys and girls ages 6-14. July 27-30.
The Buck Creek Run includes a 5K course plus various kid's runs for children as young as two years old. July 3.
The Rockford Area Kids Triathlon offers triathlon-like swimming, biking and running events in seven age categories, all under 18. July 11.
Trio del Sol 2015 includes a kids' triathlon challenge and youth splash & dash aquathon in addition to adult sprint and Olympic events. July 18.
Team Orphans Cookie 5K is a run/walk through the orchards at Robinette's Apple Haus. Fun for the whole family. July 25.
The Discovery of King Tut at Grand Rapids Public Museum is a dazzling multimedia exploration of the boy king's ancient realm. The exhibit includes more than 1,000 replicas of items from King Tut's tomb, all reconstructed by master Egyptian craftsmen. Through September 1.
The Summer Film and Acting Camp at Compass College of Cinematic Arts lets kids ages 13-18 shoot or star in a film. June 22-26.
Arts Day Camp at Master Arts Theatre offers classes for kids entering kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd grade - 8th grade. July 27-31.
Camp Curious provides kids aged 4-16 with the opportunity to use Grand Rapids Public Museum as a learning lab. A variety of camps are offered from June 15 through August 13.
Bring the kids to a family farm to see where their food comes from. Select farms offer u-pick of various fruits in season, including strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, apples and pumpkins.
Kids can learn to assemble fresh fruits, veggies and other ingredients into delectable family dishes at Downtown Market cooking classes.
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park offers a variety of classes and camps for kids throughout the summer.
Movies in the Park return to downtown's Ah-Nab-Awen Park - bring your blankets, chairs, beer, wine and snacks, and enjoy a movie under the stars:

Circle Theatre presents The Jungle Book, an action-packed stage adaptation of the classic adventure story. June 24-28.
The Meijer State Games of Michigan - Summer is an Olympics-style event complete with lavish opening ceremonies and 37 different sports competitions. Come cheer on athletes from across the state. June 25-28.
The Port City Princess July 4th Fireworks Cruise & All-American Buffet offers the best view of the fireworks over Muskegon Lake. July 4.
Grand Rapids Civic Theatre presents two special children's shows from July 24 - August 2:
• Footloose, a teen musical based on the popular movie
• A Little Princess, set in a girls' boarding school in London
Byron Days Festival is a fun-filled family weekend featuring a 5K race and kids fun run, parade, concerts and more. July 24-26.
Cruizin' the Calder brings 200-300 custom cars, classic cars, hot rods and custom truck to downtown's Calder Plaza for a show and fundraiser followed by a cruse from downtown to 28th Street. July 25.
The West Michigan Whitecaps, a Detroit Tigers affiliate, continue their pursuit of another Class A title at Fifth Third Ballpark.
Make plans now to attend ArtPrize 2015, the world's richest, most radically open art competition. ArtPrize brings 1,500+ artists and 400,000+ visitors to downtown Grand Rapids for 19 days of art everywhere. It's great fun for all ages - and everyone over 16 years of age can vote to determine the contest winners! September 23 - October 11.
