National Sales Manager

Reports to: VP of Sales & Services
FLSA Status: Exempt

Experience Grand Rapids has a position available for a National Sales Manager. This role implements sales strategies to solicit convention from national clients. This position collaborates with convention centers and hotel partners to secure proposals and presentations to clients. The National Sales Manager participates in tradeshows, site inspections and promotional events. The National Sales Manager secures convention meeting bookings according to established goal. Candidates for this role should have at least 5-7 years of hotel or destination sales experience, comfortable working in a team environment, strong public speaking and presentation skills, familiar with a CRM and have effective analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains regular contact with meeting planners by phone, email and personal sales calls to obtain leads/RFPs.
  • Once RFP/lead is received, works with hotel and venue partners on organizing proposals on behalf of EXGR community.
  • Creates and maintains group accounts in CRM.
  • Secures convention bookings according to established goals.
  • Organizes itinerary and conducts site inspections with clients on hotels, venues, and attractions.
  • Participates in tradeshows, conventions, and other promotional events.

Working Conditions:

Ability to work in stressful environment. Frequent telephone and computer use.  Use of manual dexterity required for writing and computer use.  Sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Independently mobile with the possibility of climbing stairs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to stand for long periods of time.  Work travel, both by auto and by airplane, is required.   • Bachelor's degree – preferred in hospitality or business
  • 5-7 years experience in hotel or destination sales
  • Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working in a CRM
  • Able to communicate appropriately with all levels of people
  • Able to make decision and prioritize own work
  • Effective analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Be able to manage budgets
  • Able to discover new leads, develop new business, and secure repeat business
