Specialty Sales Manager

Reports to: VP of Sales and Director of Sales
FLSA Status: Exempt

Experience Grand Rapids has a position available for a Specialty Markets Sales Manager. This role will implement sales strategies to solicit group tours, weddings, family & military reunions, and hobby conventions to Grand Rapids. Candidates for this role should have at least 2 years of sales/marketing experience, comfortable working in a team environment, possess strong communication skills, familiar with a CRM and have great time management skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements sales strategies to solicit group tour, weddings, family & military reunions, hobby conventions by developing qualified sales leads and submitting to appropriate local facilities, conducting regular follow-up and securing group bookings according to established goals.
  • Develops and maintains relationship and marketing focus for these specialty markets.
  • Represents the organization in relation to sustainable efforts with planners and the community.
  • Identifies and develops opportunities by researching, attending meetings, special events, tour opportunities and subscribing to related publications.
  • Maintains regular contact with planners via telephone, email, and personal sales calls.
  • Creates and maintains group accounts in the SimpleView database.
  • Collaborates with hotel and attraction partners on proposal and itineraries
  • Conducts site inspections of hotels, venues and attractions.
  • Participates in trade shows, conventions, promotional events, and sales blitzes.
  • Works with Marketing on specialty e-newsletters and developing content ideas and packages for group tour market.

Working Conditions:

Ability to work in stressful environment.  Frequent telephone and computer use.  Use of manual dexterity required for writing and computer use.  Sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  Independently mobile with the possibility of climbing stairs.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to stand for long periods of time.  Work travel, both by auto and by airplane, is required.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.  

Qualifications:

  • 4 year college degree – preferred in hospitality, marketing or business
  • 2-5 years experience in hospitality, customer service or marketing
  • Able to discover new leads, develop new business, and secure repeat business
  • Strong knowledge of destination sales techniques and practices
  • Able to communicate appropriately with all levels of people
  • Worked in a CRM
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Able to quickly learn position-specific software
  • Able to plan, prioritize and conduct work under minimal supervision
  • Effective analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills
  • Strong creative skills
  • Able to fulfill client development effort from start to finish
  • Able to work with partners on marketing efforts and maintain relationship between properties and the organization

Marketing Coordinator

Reports to:  Director of Marketing

Experience Grand Rapids is seeking a Marketing Coordinator to support various marketing functions. Major areas of responsibility will include marketing administrative/project support, lending support and coordination for multiple marketing team members and their projects.

The Marketing Coordinator will specifically assist with functions such as email marketing, CRM/database management, partnership invoicing, monitoring social media channels, and assistance with brand pillar promotions. 

Position Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates and assists with email newsletter creation and distribution.
  • Assists with keeping the community and partnership database (CRM) entries updated.
  • Assists Director of Marketing with partner invoicing and collections.
  • Assists with updates to the image library and responding to access requests.
  • Assists with site visit arrangements and itineraries for travel media, including Pure Michigan media visits.
  • Assists with coordination of Brand Pillar Promotions, for example: Restaurant Week, Craft Pass, Brewsader.
  • Assists with the monitoring of social media channels.
  • Coordinates details for marketing meetings and presentations.
  • Assists the marketing team with various tasks such as communications, website content, report generation, analysis and marketing research.
  • Lends marketing team coverage to general office phone and reception as needed.
  • Contributes to the marketing team’s projects and promotions.
  • Assists the Senior Vice President as needed.
  • Other marketing duties as assigned.

Desired Skill Set:

We’re seeking an individual who holds a degree in marketing or has related experience in marketing/tourism fields. One to three + years of experience is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint is required. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess these traits:

  • Passionate Grand Rapidian - Knowledgeable of the Grand Rapids area and what makes it a desirable destination 
  • Impressive communicator- Above average written and verbal communication skills  
  • Marketing maven- Understanding of marketing, social media, branding, tourism, email marketing, website & social analytics 
  • Database oriented- Can quickly understand inputting information into database programs (CRM), as well as inventory management within the database
  • Social media savvy – Understands social media for business use and has knowledge of social media best practices
  • Independent worker – Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision  
  • Detail driven - Goes beyond surface level to thoroughly complete tasks and projects 
  • Creative thinker – Effective analytic, decision making and problem-solving skills. Able to provide creative input and positive approach to projects 
  • Team player- Happy to step up and help multiple team members with projects outside of their realm of familiarity 
  • Task juggler- Take initiative and capable of managing multiple projects at once by being organized 
  • Customer service minded- Dedicated to providing a genuine and helpful experience to stakeholders, including phone/email/visitor inquiries
  • Fast learner- Ability to quickly understand position-specific programs
