Visitors will want to pay special attention to the following projects on major thoroughfares.
Ottawa Ave. NW from Newberry St. to Mason St. is closed through late August, after which Ottawa Ave. NW from Wallbridge St. to Coldbrook St. will be closed through into November. Visitors can access the Grand Rapids Garage Bar & Grill (819 Ottawa Ave. NW) from Bond Ave.
Double-lane closures for road and bridge work are scheduled for July 8 through July 16 on southbound US-131 between Ann Street and I-196. The on-ramp from Leonard Street/Turner Avenue to southbound US-131 will also be closed.
From August 7 through late November: Lane closures and traffic shifts are in effect on eastbound I-96 between M-6 (Paul B. Henry Freeway) and the Kent/Ionia county line from Sunday evening through Friday morning. Westbound I-96 lane closures and shifts are in effect 9am Monday through Friday morning.
This work zone utilizes the zipper merge. When traffic is heavy, motorists should use both open lanes and take turns merging into one lane at the signed merge point.
The westbound ramp from Business I-196 (Chicago Dr) ramp to westbound I-196 is closed through the end of May. The eastbound I-196 ramp to Business I-196 is closed during the same period.
The right lane of the southbound US-131 ramp to 54th Street is closed through the beginning of June. The left lane remains open.
The I-196 Business Route (Byron Road) will close between 84th Avenue and I-196 for reconstruction. This closure will remain in effect through July with traffic detoured using 64th Avenue and M-121 (Chicago Drive). The off ramp from westbound I-196 to the westbound I-196 Business Route will remain open. The on ramp from the eastbound I-196 Business Route to westbound I-196 will remain open until Memorial Day.
Project completion dates are estimates, as this work is weather dependent. It’s always a good idea to check the links at the top of page as you’re planning your trip.
