Road and bridge improvements to 4.5 miles of I-96, from east of Bristol Ave to West River Dr, will cause intermittent lane and ramp closures and traffic shifts through September. If you’re driving to Grand Rapids from the west, roadwork in Ottawa County could impact your travel. Westbound I-196 will be shifted to the eastbound side of the roadway with traffic separated by a concrete barrier wall. In 2023, both directions of traffic will share the newly rebuilt westbound side while eastbound I-196 is reconstructed.
