Current Projects

The 2026 road construction season in Grand Rapids has begun. Keep the following roadwork projects in mind as you make your travel plans to and around the region.

We’ll update this page through November as new projects are announced and implemented.

Downtown GR

Prep work has begun on rebuilding the Martin Luther King Jr. bridge over US-131 just south of downtown Grand Rapids. The bridge will be closed for demolition in April and the rebuild will last through mid-November. Northbound US-131 on- and off-ramps to MLK Jr. St will be closed during the project. Southbound ramps will remain open, connecting with Century Ave. Traffic will be detoured via Division Ave, Hall St and Century Ave. This will not impact highway travel and minimum traffic disruption is expected.

Southeast

Three miles of M-37 (Broadmoor Ave) in Caledonia are being rebuilt from March 1, 2026 through mid-September 2027. M-37 will remain open but there will be ongoing lane closures, flagging and total closures at intersections. 84th Street will be closed on the east side of M-37 in coordination with a total closure of Cherry Valley Avenue from M-37 to just north of 84th Street. Plan on a little extra time when traveling from Grand Rapids to Caledonia (and vice versa) on M-37.
