Byron Center is a friendly, family-oriented community with a growing commercial presence. The 2015 opening of a Tanger Outlet Mall has drawn huge crowds to the area – and those that venture beyond the massive shopping center are delighted to discover unique independent stores, hearty comfort-food restaurants and abundant recreation opportunities.
Downtown Byron Center, stretching a few blocks outward from the intersection of 84th St and Byron Center Ave, contains the highest concentration of shops and restaurants. It’s surrounded by bucolic farmland and homes for the area’s 7,400 or so residents. Byron Center is easily accessible from two major expressways and is just 15 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids.

All In Pickleball Gym
The Grand Rapids area’s first dedicated indoor pickleball facility, All In Pickleball Gym offers five competitive courts and two training courts, plus a lounge area to relax before or after your game. Bicentennial Park
The north section of Bicentennial Park has a large parking area, two baseball/softball fields, concessions/restroom building and a skate park. The south section holds two open air pavilions with picnic tables, restrooms, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, three shuffleboard courts, 12 pickleball courts, a playground, a walking path with life fitness stations and a paved parking lot. Break Room Therapy

Brewer Park
Brewer Park is the most active outdoor sports park in the Kent County Park system, with seven soccer fields, a ball diamond, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a cricket pitch, paved walking trail and an 18-hole disc golf course. 399 84th St SE.
Byron Township Community Center
The Byron Township Community Center is a fitness facility featuring 12 outdoor pickleball courts and gymnasium, both requiring membership or accompaniment by a member, plus a variety of programs, classes, events and trips for all ages, open to residents and non-residents. 2120 76th St SW.
Byron Township Library
The Byron Township Branch of the Kent District Library system offers 13,640 sq. ft. filled with books, media, public computers, a teen space, community meeting rooms and private rooms. The library hosts book discussions and storytimes for all ages. 8191 Byron Center Ave SW.

A baseball/softball diamond, two playgrounds, soccer fields, six group picnic areas and enclosed shelter house are among the amenities at busy Douglas Walker Park. Grand Rapids Grand Prix
Race Sodi electric go-karts on an indoor two-level track at speeds up to 35 mph at Grand Rapids Grand Prix – so fast that drivers must be at least 15 years of age to participate. One of the first climbing gyms opened in the U.S., Inside Moves offers top-rope and lead climbing on walls up to 34 ft. high with a variety of angles. Southside Ice Arena
Featuring two sheets of ice, Southside Ice Arena hosts community hockey teams, conducts skating lessons and offers open skate on Sunday evenings. 566 100th St SW.
Special Olympics Michigan Unified Sports and Inclusion Center
The Unified Sports & Inclusion Center is the largest Special Olympics training and sports center in the world, built to support Special Olympics Michigan’s mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The 127,000 sq. ft. facility includes a fitness area, pickleball courts, a collegiate-level track, and soccer and flag football fields, which host local, state and national events. There is also office space for inclusion-focused nonprofits, including Disability Advocates of Kent County.
Whistlestop Park
Four youth baseball/softball fields, four adult softball fields, two football fields, three soccer fields, two lacrosse fields, an archery and a dog park are all part of 59-acre Whistlestop Park. There is also a designated spot for a community garden, a natural trail through a small wooded area and a 2.5-acre pond with two fishing decks. Kent Trails
Kent Trails is a 15 mile, non-motorized paved trail that is a collaborative effort between Kent County Parks, the cities of Grand Rapids, Grandville, Walker and Wyoming and Byron Township. The Byron Center trailhead on 84th St marks the southern end of the trail. You can follow it from Byron Center all the way to Millenium Park and John Ball Zoo. Most of the trail follows abandoned railroad lines, so it’s predominantly level with no sharp turns. The trailhead is across the street from McDonald’s (2626 84th St SW).
