The Bridge GR Event LogoThe Bridge GR

August 28 - October 3, 2020

Introducing over a month-long series of events celebrating Grand Rapids' art, culture, community and music focused on economic recovery and reactivation. The Bridge GR is a new community celebration designed to create opportunity for community conversations and bridge the gap between our current COVID-19 reality and a bright future.

The Bridge GR will leverage events and activities to build conversations that promote resiliency, healing, shared understanding, and progress in Grand Rapids. The Bridge will also encourage locals and visitors to support Grand Rapids restaurants and businesses, provide residents with an opportunity to celebrate the rich and diverse culture and creativity within our community, and create a platform for the advancement of a culturally and economically equitable, inclusive, and diverse community.

A wide range of community groups will host a series of events and activities throughout downtown and in various city neighborhoods from August 28 through October 3. Streets, parks, parking lots and yes, bridges will come alive with all manner of entertainment and engagement.

This year’s restrictions on social gatherings led to the cancellation of many of the area’s most popular events. The Bridge will incorporate elements of these much-missed celebrations and will empower local artists of all kinds – painters, sculptors, musicians, dancers, chefs and more – to present and profit from their work. It will serve as a platform to amplify important community conversations happening around social justice and equity. And it will bring residents and visitors together – for the first time in a long time – to enjoy some of the very best Grand Rapids has to offer.

A Note on Safety Precautions

These outdoor events will allow organizers and participants to follow state guidelines on crowd capacity, social distancing and sanitation.

  • Events will be limited to 100 attendees.
  • People not a part of the same household will be required to maintain six feet of distance from one another.
  • Even though outdoors, masks are encouraged while attending these events and are required when six feet of social distance cannot be consistently maintained.
  • Bridge GR organizers will meet with the Kent County Health Department for safety tips.
  • Each organizer has submitted a thoughtful mitigation plan to the City of Grand Rapids Office of Special Events to ensure proper measures are in place to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19.
  • Attendees are asked to follow the procedures that event organizers have in place.

Let’s get together – safely and responsibly – to celebrate the art, artists and cultural organizations that make this region special!
