Est. 1873, with additions in 1911, 1912, & 1914
Alpinus and Melville Bissell and Benjamin Harland deeded the park’s original 3.5 acres to the city in 1873. Added to at various times, the Grand Rapids Herald in 1912 reported that Highland was “destined to be a rival in beauty to John Ball Park”.
Coldbrook Creek is visible in the park. Highland Park used to have a 9 hole golf course, but some of the original park was taken to construct I-196.
