Meijer State Games of Michigan is a multi-sport, Olympic-style event that welcomes state residents of all ages and abilities to compete in Grand Rapids.

Both Winter Games and Summer Games are held every year, typically in February and June, at numerous venues in and around the city. The Winter Games are split between Grand Rapids and Marquette in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. (Marquette receives more than twice as much snowfall as Grand Rapids in an average year, so it’s a more appropriate setting for certain winter sports.)

Together, the Winter Games and Summer Games comprise 50+ different sports – everything from archery and baseball in summer to wrestling and snow volleyball in winter. Athletes can find their sport and register online to participate at the Meijer State Games website.

Like the Olympics, the Meijer State Games of Michigan includes an Opening Ceremony that allows thousands of spectators to witness the Parade of Athletes, Lighting of the Cauldron and exciting entertainment. The Summer Ceremonies take place in Grand Rapids, the Winter Ceremonies in Marquette.

Fans can attend individual events to cheer on athletes to medal-winning performances and submit nominations for Athlete of the Year. There are also Summer Volunteer and Winter Volunteer opportunities that will put you even closer to the action.

The Meijer State Games of Michigan is the signature event of the West Michigan Sports Commission and a member of the National Congress of State Games. Michigan athletes can go on to compete in the State Games of America.
