Now in its fourth year, the Christkindl Markt is an authentic European-inspired Christmas village lined with 60+ artisan gift and food vendors, holiday entertainment and festive family fun. Snack on Alpine-style raclette, German-style brats, Bavarian pretzels, Belgian frites and other ready-to-eat treats from across Grand Rapids and around the world. Shop for a wide variety of giftable goods, from German nutcrackers and Polish pottery to artisan jewelry and handmade ornaments. You can sip beer, bubbles, eggnog or glühwein (glow wine) from commemorative glassware as you stroll!
Reserve a curling sheet for some friendly-yet-frosty competition. Book a private Alpenglobe to enjoy table service surrounded by panoramic Christmas market views. Step into the warm confines of the Grand Rapids Downtown Market to browse even more gourmet food vendors and restaurants ready to serve you. It all adds up to a magical holiday experience for all ages.
The Christkindl Markt is held on the outdoor grounds of the Grand Rapids Downtown Market, so dress for the season. It is open Wednesday-Sunday from Nov 18 - Dec 24, except on Thanksgiving Day.
Other Holiday Happenings
Downtown Grand Rapids will be lit up and decked out in all its holiday finery during your overnight stay at the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott. You can get a drink from the Courtyard’s Bistro bar and walk around downtown streets admiring the lights and decorations – just stay within the boundaries of the Downtown Refreshment Area. (It’s big!)
The Courtyard is centrally located to everything downtown. You can walk (or take the free DASH bus) to more than 170 restaurants, 100+ unique shops and the four museums included in Attraction Pass GR. It’s a 10-minute walk to the Christkindl Markt and a three-minute walk to Uccello’s Ristorante, where you’ll be dazzled by 100+ menu items, 20+ beers on tap and 50+ TVs tuned into the hottest sports action.
It’s just a 10-minute drive from downtown to ENLIGHTEN at Meijer Gardens, named one of America’s Top Botanical Garden Holiday Lights Experiences by USA Today. Meijer Gardens is also the site of Christmas and Holiday Traditions, an annual exhibition showcasing 40+ displays from international cultures.
