Beer City Eats

Most everybody knows that Grand Rapids is Beer City USA. But did you know that Grand Rapids is also a great food destination? Thrillist declared it Michigan’s best food city. Tasting Table touts it as “one of the Midwest’s most legit culinary cities.” And WalletHub named it the second most affordable foodie city in America.

Some of the most creative, delectable and satisfying food in town is served in our craft breweries – places where the food is as big a draw as the beer. We’re showcasing eight of these boundary-busting breweries in our Beer City Eats video series.

The Host

Grand Rapids designer, musician and DJ Adrian "AB” Butler is your tour guide for Beer City Eats. AB serves as an unofficial goodwill ambassador for the city and its unique blend of creative entrepreneurs – including the talented brewmasters and chefs who are breaking new ground in beer-and-food pairings.

The Breweries

It wasn’t easy to narrow down the list of 40+ Beer City Brewsader breweries to just eight. So we went to the experts – we asked our Instagram and Facebook followers to tell us which local breweries serve up the best grub . These eight came out on top:

Brewery Vivant

Located in a refurbished historic funeral home in the Uptown neighborhood, it specializes in rustic, farmhouse-inspired beers and European-inspired food.

TwoGuys Brewing

Grand Rapids’ largest suburb – Wyoming – is home to this brewery, which takes an unpretentious-yet-always-delicious approach to both beer and food.

Perrin Brewing Company

This brewery pairs a diverse lineup of quality beers with a menu that redefines pub grub – influenced by the agricultural richness of the surrounding Fruit Ridge.

HopCat

The original downtown location of this brewpub perfected the template for numerous sister locations throughout the Midwest – starting with awesome beer and addictive food.

Please Note: Because HopCat has discontinued its in-house brewing operation, it no longer qualifies for the Beer City Brewsader® Passport program – and it cannot distribute passport stamps or support app check-ins. But the Downtown and Knapp’s Corner locations are still great places to enjoy a beer!

 Founders Brewing Company

This downtown brewery has earned global acclaim for its beers – and a fervid following for its menu, which flawlessly complements its crowd-pleasing brews.

City Built Brewing Co

Innovation is always on the menu at this Monroe North brewery, from the unique beer ingredients to the Puerto Rican-inspired food offering

The Mitten Brewing Company

This vintage baseball-themed microbrewery on the West Side pairs handcrafted brews with clever interpretations of ballpark food – including specialty pizza.

Harmony Brewing Company  & Harmony Hall

One’s in Uptown, one’s on the West Side – both offer a selection of award-wining, wood-fired pizzas and other made-from-scratch comfort foods.
